Material Handler Job Description
In a production or warehouse environment, a materials handler is responsible for moving components or finished products either by hand or with a forklift. Material handling work can be physically demanding. You may need to be able to push, pull, and lift heavy materials repetitively over the course of a shift.
Many materials handler positions require that you be able to set up, drive, and operate forklifts to transport pallets of materials to production lines and finished products to warehouse racks, or to load and unload trailers. It is helpful to have the skills to operate multiple types of forklifts including counterbalance forklifts, sit down forklifts, stand up forklifts, cherry-pickers, and clamp and reach forklifts. Entry-level material handler jobs may not require forklift experience.
Counting, inventory tracking, and computer skills are also often necessary, as you might be required to log information about materials and products. Material handlers are sometimes asked to inspect material handling equipment and troubleshoot mechanical problems.
The Friday Staffing team will only place you in a position where you have the skills and experience to do that job well. We pride ourselves on honesty and integrity. Our staffing specialists give our employees all the information they need to be successful on each assignment. If we place you in a materials handling job, you will understand the job requirements and expectation before your first day at work.
