Thank You, Veterans

Nov 10, 2014

In the first Veteran’s Day Proclamation, issued in 1954, President Dwight Eisenhower called upon our nation to “solemnly remember the sacrifices of all those who fought so valiantly, on the seas, in the air, and on foreign shores, to preserve our heritage of freedom.”

On this Veteran’s Day we join with all Americans in honoring the men and women who have served our nation in the Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force, and Coast Guard. From all of us at Friday Services, we offer our heartfelt gratitude for your service. Thank you for the sacrifices you have made, and the freedom our nation enjoys because of those sacrifices.

How Friday Services Supports Veterans

Friday Services is a proud employer of veterans. Over the past 14 years, our agency has placed well over 600 veterans in good jobs throughout Western North Carolina. Hiring veterans is not only patriotic. Employing a veteran is often one of the smartest hiring decisions an employer can make. Veterans bring valuable skills and experience and a great work ethic to any job we place them in.

Too many of our veterans are in need of employment right now. The Veteran’s Administration recently reported that almost 800,000 veterans are unemployed. This number is expected to grow as high as one million as more veterans come home from the war in Afghanistan. To be part of the solution, our staffing agency works closely with many local veterans’ groups to help unemployed vets get working again. Our staffing team has participated in job fairs sponsored by the Veteran’s Administration and partnered with a number of organizations that are focused on putting veterans back to work including:

  • Asheville’s Veterans Restoration Quarters
  • The Hendersonville Division of Employment
  • The Asheville Division of Workforce Solutions
  • The Haywood County Division of Workforce Solutions

We are honored to serve our veterans by helping them find good jobs. We have seen the difference that good job opportunities can make in the lives of veterans, particularly for those who are facing hardship. Through our outreach at the Veterans Restoration Quarters, an organization that serves homeless veterans, we have been able to help over 25 homeless vets get jobs. We urge any veteran who is currently seeking employment to apply for a job with Friday Services. Make sure to also check out these resources that assist veterans in finding the perfect job for them!

We have also built a helpful guide to assist veterans in creating a resume tailored to their strengths and experiences. Take a look at this checklist to ensure your resume is complete!

Jobs for Those Who Serve in the National Guard and National Reserve

We also want to say a special thank you to those who are currently serving in the National Guard and National Reserve. To demonstrate our dedication to Guardsmen and Reservists, Friday Services has signed the Employer Statement of Support for the Guard and Reserve. The ESGR is a Department of Defense office dedicated to strengthening relationships between civilian employers and workers who serve in any branch of the Guard or Reserve. Members of the Guard and Reserve often face employment challenges because they must be ready to leave their civilian lives to serve at a moment’s notice. The Statement of Support we signed pledges that we will:

  • Fully recognize, honor and enforce the Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act (USERRA).
  • Provide our managers and supervisors with the tools they need to effectively manage those employees who serve in the Guard and Reserve.
  • Appreciate the values, leadership, and unique skills service members bring to the workforce and will encourage opportunities to employ Guardsmen, Reservists, and Veterans.
  • Continually recognize and support our country’s Service members and their families in peace, in crisis, and in war.

If you are a veteran, or currently serving in the National Guard or National Reserve and are looking for employment, please let us know if we can help you.
