When a Great Temporary Job Becomes Permanent

Aug 16, 2017

At Friday Services, our greatest joy is placing people in jobs they love. We’ve heard from so many employees we’ve helped that they are thriving in their new careers and feel part of a wonderful work family.

If you apply for one of our many open positions, you may notice some have the potential of “temporary to permanent.” That is, we place someone in a job as a Friday Services employee and after a period of time, they may be hired on permanently by the client company. There are many reasons why our clients choose to place people in temporary positions that have potential to turn into a long-term job offers. Working interviews give both the employer and potential employee time to decide if the position is a good fit for both. Another possibility why a temp position could be offered is to allow the prospective hire to gain the skill sets required to qualify for a permanent position. In some cases, there’s an unexpected vacancy within a client’s full-time force, and someone is trained in a temporary job to be better positioned to be hired on permanently.

While we cannot guarantee that you will get a permanent job placing through Friday Services, it is definitely a possibility. Temp positions are a great way to get your foot in the door at a company where’d you like to work in the long-run.

Hard Work Pays Off

In September 2012, Jainish P. was hired as a line assembler on third shift an automotive manufacturing company in Morganton. He installed electronic control units (ECUs) on hydraulic control units (HCU) and took finished products off the line. In August 2013, he was hired on permanently by the company. He carried out multiple duties, such as material handling, failure analysis, bracket line assembler, and line assembler. In February 2014, Jainish became a Prototype Assembler, working first shift. In January 2017, he became the Quality Assurance/Service Build Coordinator.

“My job duties are to maintain quality standards, verify correct material, correct drawings, and help qualify work processes and lines,” he says. “As a Service Build Coordinator, I receive orders, ship orders, create build packages, create tracking sheets, assign to assemblers, pull parts from production and convert as needed, and help launch new products.”

Jainish says he enjoys everything he does at work. His current hours are 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. When it comes to his family, Jainish says, “My work balance and home life is great.”

Since quality is super important at this automotive manufacturer, Jainish’s great work ethic and attention to detail has served him and the company well. He says “We aren’t just finding what doesn’t work—the negative test—we also make sure that a feature/product does what it should do—the positive test. This is as important as bug finding and involves looking at the product through the customer’s eyes.”

A Second Chance

After an 18-year career ended unexpectedly, Van Mark L. found himself in a depressed state. “Friday Services gave me a second chance… I had a heart attack and I was very depressed… I had to put one foot in front of the other, I worked every day, and I slowly, but surely, advanced and I like what I do. I like the people I work with,” says Mark.

Friday helped Mark find work with a commercial custom injection molding company in Marion in September 2014. He worked for them a little over a year before he was hired on as a permanent worker. In the months between, he earned a few raises along the way and a small promotion. “I went from being on a machine and doing production ten hours a day to providing the material and cleaning.”

Mark wears a lot of hats at his small, close-knit company. He can get to work in only ten minutes and is happy working first shift Monday through Thursday.

Coincidentally, through this job, Mark also met his girlfriend Sheila (who we featured in our Mother’s Day blog post)!
