From Alaska to Asheville: Welcome, Karina Becker, Staffing Coordinator!

Posted on: June 27, 2018

Karina Becker drove 4,000 miles through Canada and 13 states to move to Asheville.

The Alaskan native, a theater major, was looking to relocate to a place where the people were friendly, the food was exceptional and where she’d have more opportunities to put her acting skills to use. A friend who’d moved to this area about a year ago recommended she move here, and it didn’t take long for her to make up her mind.

“Asheville has everything I was looking for,” says Karina. “A hometown feel with arts and culture, mountains and beautiful views.”

But Karina was also hoping to find a job where she could feel like she was part of a team and could contribute to something meaningful. She’d worked for a well-respected, family-owned ENT clinic in Alaska and wanted to find the same warm atmosphere. She feels she found it when she was recently hired as staffing coordinator at Friday’s.

“What I love about Friday Staffing is that everyone who works here has a passion for what they do, and they really care about the people they serve,” she says. “When people work together and genuinely like each other, it carries over into caring about the clients. I was happy to see that spirit right away at Friday’s.”

Friday’s VP and COO Deborah Pressley says Karina has been a perfect fit for the team. “I am extremely pleased that Karina is joining us; her work goals and values align with ours. In addition, her enthusiastic spirit and desire to find a work home similar to what she had enjoyed in Alaska sets her up for great success.”

In her free time, Karina enjoys live music, watching movies, foodie adventures and hiking and camping, although she admits she’s still becoming acclimated to the heat and humidity here. “I’m melting!” she laughs. “Alaska can get in the 80s during a good summer, but it’s a dry heat, so I’m still adjusting to the climate.”

Karina’s motto, a quote by noted educator William Purkey, fits well with her sense of adventure: “You’ve gotta dance like there’s nobody watching, love like you’ll never be hurt, sing like there’s nobody listening, and live like it’s heaven on earth.”

We’re glad Karina’s adventurous spirit led her to Asheville and that she’s now part of the Friday Staffing family!
